Mental Health Therapy

Therapy is recommended and beneficial to all that seek services to truly better understand themselves, their goals, relationships, and emotional experiences. Providers work collaboratively with patients to uncover beliefs and thoughts that interfere with their best quality of life. Therapy also provides clients with an array of coping techniques, communication strategies, and related tools to help the patient be successful independently in the future

Therapists, psychiatrists, primary care providers, OBGYNs, and other providers refer for psychological testing when there are complicating factors to determining mental health diagnoses and the necessary treatment approach. Testing involves a clinical interview, completion of questionnaires, and some IQ-related tasks. Diagnoses determined from these evaluations include: bipolar disorders, intellectual disability, personality disorders, persistent depression, anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric conditions. (Note: We are currently unable to provide formal assessment for autism spectrum disorder). Recommendations are included in the comprehensive report that aim to help guide treatment, provide options for behavioral methods to cope with symptoms, and provide resources.

Gender affirmation surgical approval evaluations are also available upon request.

Brain functions such as memory, attention, processing speed, and decision-making can be impacted by many different mental health and medical conditions. Testing involves mainly pen and paper, and occasionally computer-based, tasks that are used to assess these brain functions. The results of the testing produce a profile that corresponds with one or more diagnosis. Diagnoses determined from these evaluations often include: dementia (Alzheimer's, vascular, Parkinson's, Lewy Body, etc.), and cognitive impairments due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, MS, obstructive sleep apnea, HIV, and other medical conditions. Recommendations are included in the comprehensive report that aim to help guide treatment, provide options for behavioral methods to cope with symptoms, and provide resources.

Forensic/Legal Neuropsychological Evaluation

A neuropsychological evaluation may be requested within the context of a legal case to determine a person's IQ, problem solving and decision-making ability, social functioning, impact of past experiences on current functioning, and/or the presence and severity of mental health and medical diagnoses that impact brain functioning. A forensic neuropsychological evaluation often includes a thorough interview with the examinee, tests of cognitive and psychological/emotional functioning, review of available records (e.g., medical, academic, DHR), interview with corroborative sources, diagnostic impressions and recommendations for the court and/or sentencing. The recommendations for this type of evaluation are often guided by the referral question, rather than a comprehensive approach to improved quality of life and treatment options such as in clinical evaluations.

This type of evaluation is often requested within cases of personal injury, guardianship/conservatorship, custody disputes, and related civil matters, as well as criminal cases at the State and Federal level. Regardless of which party initiates services, the final diagnostic impressions and recommendations are driven by the data attained through the evaluation process and related clinical decision-making of the licensed provider.
